Hamas leader rejected the demand disarmament of Israel

Senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh today rejected Israeli demands that it stripped requested that as a condition to end the long-standing blockade of the Gaza Strip and allow the opening of the airport and the port there.

Haniyeh said during a meeting in Gaza City near it could not accept or deal with any international decision to disarm the resistance, referring to Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups, such as Al Arabiya television reported on Friday (5/9).

Israel has said it will urge the disarmament of Hamas in the indirect talks in Cairo aimed to map the way forward towards Gaza in the middle of the 50-day war that killed more than 2,200 people, mostly Palestinians. The fighting ended on 26 August.

Hamas is seeking the opening of the airport and seaport in the densely populated coastal strip and the lifting of restrictions on the Israeli border were enacted in 2007.

Israel has long said it should limit the import of cement, pipe and other construction materials to Gaza because it considers the militants will use the materials to build rockets, bunkers and tunnel cross-border attacks.

Unlike the Palestinian Authority, the Western-backed, in the West Bank, Hamas does not accept Israel's right to be recognized.
