The Arab League is due to hold a ministerial meeting in Cairo on Sunday (7/9) to discuss the rapid changes in the region.
Kerry and Al-Arabi talks about the need for the Arab League and its members perform a hard stance in the coalitions in the face of ISIS, said a senior official State Department.
They also talked about the importance of decisive action to stop the flow of foreign fighters, blocking the financial resources ISIS and against incitement, "the official added.
Both leaders agreed Iraq was at the forefront in the fight against ISIS. Iraq, the United States, as well as the countries of the region and the international community must work together to help Iraq in the face of this threat.
Iraq previously welcomed President Barack Obama's plan to form an international coalition to face the militant group.
